Based in North Carolina, Learning on the Spectrum is fortunate to be located near some of the nation’s leading resources for autism research, education, and support. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has a long history of advancing knowledge and services for autistic individuals and individuals with developmental disabilities through research, clinical programs, professional training, and community-based support.
Among UNC’s most prominent autism and developmental disability resources are the UNC TEACCH® Autism Program and the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities (CIDD), the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute, and AFIRM, the Autism Focused Intervention Resources and Modules. Together with researchers and clinicians throughout UNC, these programs contribute to an interdisciplinary approach that connects research with practical services for individuals, families, educators, and other professionals.
